A glorious outsider is someone who is proud to be different. Someone who has never really fitted in and never really cared.
When I was a kid all I wanted to do was read, write and not worry about fitting in. Nothing has changed. I’ve never fitted in with the ‘popular’ crowd and I’ve never wanted to. I always had a hunch that it was cooler to be different…From a young age, I sought out the type of fiction that I also yearned to write. I was looking for characters who were on the outside. Rebels. Non-conformists. I found Holden Caulfield and PonyBoy Curtis, among others. I was looking for writers who broke the rules, who wrote stories about people who railed against the status quo. I fell in love with Jack Kerouac and Charles Bukowski.
I’m hoping you’re here because you crave the same thing. I write books about people who don’t fit in and don’t want to, people who strive to be different, people who rebel and fight back. People who remain their own person, no matter what. I also read books and interview authors who write the kind of stories I’m looking for. Stories that are compelling, gritty, hard-hitting and full of dark humour. Stories with characters I will never forget. I love it when I find books like that, so I am always on the hunt.
This is where you come in. If you’ve come across stories you think I’ll enjoy then please let me know! I am also looking for submissions to share on my blog from writers who understand what a glorious outsider is. If you have something you would like to submit, whether it is fiction, non-fiction, poetry, an article or even a book review that fits the ethos of this blog, then please do get in touch.

I just read Advice from Authors I’m Glad I Finally Listened To. The part about reaching out to find your community of writers is a good reminder, but the parts about how we sometimes feel like hiding our writing definitely struck a chord with me. Thanks for taking the time to share.

I’ve always been puzzled by “writers” who want to hide. Hey, guys, we’ve got to put ourselves out there, let people know that we write and let them know what we write. If you want to stay private, then this job is not for you!

And I enjoyed reading this post; I can relate in that a big part of me has for so long not QUITE ever fitted in. Sometimes a bit. I think it would have been cool to know someone like you, when I was younger…..and back then trying to fit in. I really should have just dropped that idea altogether. Oh well. Live and learn, right?
